The Digital Pulpit is designed to help beginning preachers learn to preach the Word of God to people in a Digital World! We have a few different emphases.
1. The best way to preach the word of God is using an expository method. But what is Expository Preaching? It is defined simply as preaching that takes its content not from the mind of the preacher but from the mind of God as revealed in a particular passage of the Christian Scriptures. In other words, you get your sermon idea from the biblical passage not from your opinions. There is a right way to discover that idea and we will explain that further in the posts that will make up this blog.
2. The best way to present an expository message in today’s Digital World is with the use of multimedia. Multimedia comes from two latin roots. Multi means many or multiple and media means the means of communication. For example using only speech is a single form of media. But if I use speech and a chalk board, while I am utilizing them, I am using a multimedia approach to presenting my idea.
3. The best way to learn to do multimedia expository preaching is to actually do it. That is why we will take an approach that is experiential. I will blog and ask you the reader to take part by actually working with me on a particular passage. Over the course of a few months we will work together on a single passage and the end result of which you will have a full-blown, ready-to-preach, multimedia sermon.
The way to use this site is of course read it. You can subscribe to an RSS feed of this sight by clicking on the RSS link. Some good RSS readers are from Google or Bloglines. They are both web based so you don’t have to download any software. If you would rather you can subscribe from right in your browser. All the major browers, including Internet Explorer 7, Firefox and Opera, have good RSS feed readers.
After you have subscribed to the site via an RSS reader, just read each day’s posts. I will use the category feature to help you find all the posts in a passage term. A single term will begin with the basics and move our way through the process of studying and preparing the message on a particular passage. After we complete a term we will start over with an entirely new passage. I will alternate between New Testament and Old, between didactic passage, poetry, narrative, etc. Each term will take a few months to complete. The goal is to go through the process so that you can learn how to effectively work through the method of multimedia expository preaching. If you follow through a few terms you should be prepared to preach the word accurately, effectively, and in a contemporary way.
